Our curriculum
Our curriculum is what we want the children to learn in the time they are with us at The Enchanted wood. It is based on the statutory Early years foundation stage (EYFS), which gives you a framework that you can build on, through the seven areas of learning. Here at the Enchanted Wood we follow development matters and the seven areas of learning are as follows..
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Communication and Language (C+L)
- Physical Development (PD)
- Literacy (L)
- Mathematics (M)
- Understanding the World (UTW)
- Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
Please see attached our Enchanted Wood Curriculum which will be covered and extended on during the children’s time with us. As always, the children’s enjoyment and interests will always be our main focus throughout their developmental journey.
The Curiosity Approach at The Enchanted Wood
We are also working towards our Curiosity Approach accreditation. The Curiosity Approach is a modern way to learning and Children explore using authentic real resources that they may have experience with in their everyday life at home and around the world. We set up enchanting environments to create a world of magic and wonder for the children to have a home away from home.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Every child is born ready and eager to learn, it is our role as Early Years Practitioners to nurture this. We create enabling environments and positive relationships that support every child’s unique development. We follow the development matters within the Nursery.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets out the learning and development stages for children as they grow from birth to five years.
We have an appointed Early Years Coordinator who is also our Deputy Manager Grace who ensures we are complying with the latest changes to the EYFS as well as being able to provide parents with support if needed
For more information on all areas of the EYFS, as well as tips and ideas to support your child’s learning please see the link below:

Transition
“Children want the same things we want, To laugh, To be challenged, To be entertained and delighted.”
Dr Seuss
We aim to ensure that every child’s experience at Nursery is comfortable and enjoyable. We fully respect every child and their family as individuals, we feel that working closely and forming that bond is a vital aspect in meeting all of your child’s unique needs.
We have the following strategies in place to full support every stage of your child’s transition…
‘Millie has attended Enchanted Wood since she was 8 months old, We are extremely happy with the facilities but most importantly the support she receives. She has fantastic relationships with staff and always enjoys her time here. We would always recommend Enchanted Wood to others!’

Transition from home to Nursery…
Here at The Enchanted Wood we have a settle session process. However as every child and family is unique we fully understand that one settle approach may work for one child and not for another.
We endeavour to work together with each and every family as individuals in order to show full support through this settling in and separation period.
We have the following resources to reinforce this support…
- Initial full tour of the Nursery, during this time any questions you may have can be answered.
- Settle Pack pack.
- Famly App registration which has access to Daily diaries, invoicing, daily updates etc.
- Learning Journey through the Famly App.
- Photographs for your child’s individual family books are requested.
- In the Bunnies, Hedgehogs and squirrels rooms, individual daily routines are documented through the Famly app.
- If there are any additional needs such as SEND, strategies are put in place and links with other professionals involved with your child are established immediately.
Transition within the Nursery…
When it is time for your child to move up into the next room, settle sessions will be arranged so they are able to become familiar with their new surroundings with ease. Your child’s key worker will accompany them for settle sessions to meet their new key worker and friends. You will be introduced to the practitioners in the room.
All family books, photographs and Learning Journeys are passed on, along with the key worker’s transition reports.
“My Son has been supported in every aspect of his time at Nursery. My husband and I feel super confident in the Nursery and have never had any concerns. We adore the Nursery and are looking forward to sending our second child soon! I constantly recommend Enchanted Wood to anyone and everyone looking for a nursery, it is honestly the best and I couldn’t of wish for better! Thank you, you are all amazing!

Transition to School…
We ensure that all children are prepared for their transition into school. We have excellent relationships with all of our feeder primary schools. Our local schools have provided us with photo books for the children to look through at their leisure as well as uniforms that are used as part of role play.
Where possible visits to the school with key workers are arranged, we also always encourage the reception class teachers to visit the children at Nursery transition reports are sent to the school’s for every child.
Our goal is to support each child as much as we can to ensure that they feel happy and safe in their new school environment.
Famly App
Famly builds a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years education. Using photos and videos our team along with the child’s parents or carers ‘weaves’ the story of the child and how they are growing and developing. The Famly platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. All information held in the platform is stored securely and can be downloaded and shared as required. Parents or carers are able to view their child’s progress, the activities provided for them, and how much fun they’re having, whilst also uploading their own comments and media.
The Famly App also gives parents, carers and staff the ability to communicate throughout the day through the messaging app. Parents and carers can also view the live news feed with posts from staff, the nursery calendar and to keep track of their child’s day through the daily dairy. This logs their meals, toileting and sleep times.
The communication between staff and parents that Famly enables, helps build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential, from birth to when they leave us for school. The Famly online learning journal is also available as an easy-to-use, secure app, meaning capturing key learning moments, and videoing milestones are even easier.
‘Partnerships with parents are outstanding. Parents value the fabulous experiences their children have to learn in their surroundings. They offer the
highest praise for the support their children receive from the warm and caring
staff‘

Parent Partnerships
We are extremely dedicated in developing excellent relationships with all our parents and families. We fully encourage parents to be actively involved in your child’s Nursery life. We understand that each family is unique and so encourage all families to share with us their child’s needs and interests, how they learn and what aspects are important to them for their care and education within the Nursery environment.
We are continuously pursuing ideas for improvement taking every opportunity to engage with parents to seek their views on how we can improve.
We warmly welcome all parents as volunteers to come in and take part in activities or projects that they have an interest in, as well as joining us on excursions.
